The Jersey Dog Handlers Association ("JDHA") has been shortlisted down to the final 3 out of the whole of the UK for 'Training Class of the Year', ahead of the Pawscars Awards Ceremony to be held at Crufts 2018!
We have been informed that this is quite an achievement as this is the first time any club from Jersey has been nominated!
The Pawscars is like the doggy equivalent of the Oscars for dog related shows / handlers and Training clubs.
How did the JDHA Qualify?
The JDHA were nominated by a member of the club. The Pawscars Committee look at the nominations and then take forward a shortlist of three to a public vote with awards being presented on the night which will be March 7 2018.
After the JDHA was nominated it was advised that it had made the shortlist and then had to make a 30 second video in order to ‘sell themselves’. The video will be on the website where you vote and shown at the awards ceremony itself - Here's a sneaky peak but don't forget to the go to the website to vote as well!
Background to the Pawscars:
After winning Best in Show at Crufts 2013 with Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Ch Soletrader Peek A Boo, aka ‘Jilly’, handler Gavin Robertson organised a mammoth sponsored walk with lots of different dogs and their owners called ‘Jilly’s Jolly Jaunt’ which raise just under £50,000 for good causes & brought together the world of dogs in a remarkable way. Two weeks after the funds from Jilly’s Jaunt were distributed to Great Ormand Street Hospital, Doglost and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, the next chapter of the story was started which led to the inaugural Pawscars on March 4, 2014 at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC.
On that evening awards were made that recognised success, hard work and effort in all areas of the dog world. It also established the Pawscars as a premier event in the UK dog calendar and it raises money for good causes. In four years £119,820 has been donated to worthy projects.
How you can vote:
The club is delighted to have made the shortlist and they would love it if you would vote for them.
The JDHA are extremely proud and would be thrilled to win this award so let's help them shall we! Good luck JDHA!
